QCQ is short for “Quotation-Comment-Question.” It begins with a Quotation of 1-3 sentences. It then has a Comment. And it then asks a Question that encourages engagement from others. A good QCQ gives you something to bring to the table and offers something worth discussing in class. Earn full credit (1000 points) for a QCQ that touches all 3 bases – and is in on time.

QCQ for Social Stories: Digital Storytelling and Social Media

Quotation (with page number or parag number or time stamp if video/audio)

“Today the technology not only offers potential user-creators opportunities to shape their stories and share their work in different ways but it also challenges user-creators to rethink what the story form is and whom it serves.” (page 46)

Comment (250-500 words)

This quote was at the end of the article and really stood out to me the way it summarized the purpose of social media, and I think it’s said perfectly. Technology has expanded in ways never thought of before, and it holds so much power to share ideas of everyday people wanting to express their stories. From a creator’s profile to their posts, so much can be shared. As the article says, there are many different ways to express ideas in the social media world. It can be a short Twitter post, a gif of something, or an Instagram story. Different platforms will give the creator different responses to their stories. Before the time of one-sentence monumental statements, paragraph-long stories would be told, and they could be overwhelming to a user. Now that times are changing, creators need to change too and keep up with the latest trends on social media. This constant motion has pushed creators to develop more short meaningful stories that catch the attention of users and have them support you and your stories. Technology can be so beneficial from someone just needing to tell their story and to have people listen to it, to jumpstarting huge movements of change. Even though technology has its negative sides, it has hugely positively impacted the world. Social media is more powerful than ever, and when creators can “crack the code,” it’s the best feeling ever to share with the world your stories, your hobbies, your opinions, you.

Question

I wonder if social media will be the next big place to get daily news and companies like CNN and Fox news will be not as successful if social media is going to steal all their viewers? It makes sense as it’s easier to get news as you scroll through Twitter and some people feel it’s less biased too. Gotta watch out though for fake news…so I just don’t know.
