This is going to be a little mini-series where I pick two fashion trends, compare, contrast, and pick my favorite based on a number of things including…

  • functionality
  • creativity
  • popularity

2020 Themed:

The first trend/item up is baggy jeans. Before 2020 we had been living in a world dominated by skinny jeans and sometimes they are just downright uncomfortable! With the pandemic hitting people were shifting towards more comfortable pants. This is when baggy jeans had a comeback from the 90s, much looser to move around in and super stylish with pretty much everything. I personally LOVE baggy jeans, I feel like they fit my body figure so much more flattering than skinnys and are definitely more comfortable. I also love the versatility of these pants, I can dress them up or down and as so many different vibes. Now, with jean buying the one downside is trying to find a size that fits you. I struggle so much finding jeans that fit my waist and hips and I have come very close to giving up and excepting waist gaps, but recently I have been finding brands of jeans that actually fit me and fit me well and I’m super happy!

I give baggy jeans a 10/10 on functionality, 7/10 on creativity (since they already existed) and an 8/10 on popularity, people seem to love the baggy jeans being trendy, and style amazing outfits with them.

The item(s) being compared are loungewear sets. Since 2020 was all about comfort, brands definitely took that mindset and ran with it. Creating/revamping lounge sets. Before 2020 stylish loungewear wasn’t really a thing, if you wanted to be comfy you threw on some old sweatpants and a t-shirt and called it a day. More and more loungewear is becoming more socially acceptable as public wear so brands had to keep up with the times and design these loungewear sets. Their super cute and comfy, perfect for running errands or just chilling at home. I’m definitely on board with loungewear being stylish, makes getting ready super easy.

I give lounge sets a 10/10 on functionality, no explanation is needed. 9/10 on creativity because brands really did form to covid times and were successful. Finally 8/10 on popularity, nowadays you can see Hailey Bieber and Rihanna rocking these sets and looking fly as ever.

After reviewing both items, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer baggy jeans over lounge sets. My reasoning is that my go-to pant item has always been jeans over sweatpants if I’m trying to put an outfit together and having baggy jeans as an option now has really improved my styling skills and I love all the fits I create. I feel like as great as lounge sets are, there are some drawbacks. You basically have your whole outfit done with just the two items, and yes accessorizing the fit can elevate it but you just don’t have as many options. Whereas with baggy jeans, they just give you a base layer to work off of to design the perfect outfit and personally I like that better. Baggy jeans are the winner in my heart but you really can’t go wrong either way.

Stay stylish!
